One hour presentation on the establishment of the first British settlement north of Port Macquarie. Fort Dundas was settled in 1824, and remained for five tortuous years on Melville Island. Run by soldiers, marines and gun carrying convicts, it failed miserable as a trading settlement, because no one ever came to trade. It closed in 1829.
Port Darwin / Palmerston
One hour presentation on the second Northern Territory Expedition in 1869. Darwin was at last settled successfully after a party of surveyors led by George Goyder managed to survey over 1000 urban and rural blocks previously sold to investors.
One hour presentation on the First Northern Territory Expedition. Led by a retired colonel it was South Australia's first attempt at colonising their northern coast. It failed dismally, and was abandoned after two years.
